Studies prepare for:

  • work for websites, journals, radio and TV Catholic channels;
  • work for Catholic organizations, associations and foundations; engage in the activities of social organizations respecting Christian values;
  • act as leaders of Catholic movements and associations.

Our graduates possess advanced knowledge of Humanities and Social Studies, they acquire extensive knowledge of Christianity and Catholicism in historical, biblical, dogmatic, moral, liturgical, legal and pastoral aspects.

A master’s degree entitles you to:

  • apply to post-graduate courses and Licentiate Programme in Systematic Theology
  • apply to doctoral schools

COURSE CONTENT


Work placements

Optional work placements:

  • voluntary work for religious events (retreats, festivals, summer camps for children and youth)
  • engagement in church institutions and NGOs: (e.g. Caritas, Fundacja “Szczęśliwe Dzieciństwo”, Church Renewal Movements, etc.)

Moreover, students can stay in cooperation with external partners. Students organise and coordinate scientific, cultural and religious events as members of Faculty student organizations: Student Self-government at the Faculty of Theology, The Scientific Circle of Theologians at KUL as well as other university organizations like Academic Pastoral Centre, ITP Theatre, Academic League, Student’s Circle for Entrepreneurship, etc.



Skills acquired by Theology graduates

  • skills for interrelating individual topics in particular branches of theology on the basis of the developed knowledge and skills in ethics, philosophy and theology
  • skills for taking action in compliance with ethical standards
  • skills for comprehending and analysing new and emerging forms of religious beliefs and practices
  • skills for using theological knowledge in professional and social contexts

  • ability to adapt one’s presentation methodology to the audience needs and abilities
  • ability to select effective means of communication including voice techniques in order to achieve desired expressive outcomes
  • ability to critically evaluate the statements of others and formulate conclusions from the communication
  • acknowledging differences and opposition in viewpoints on social and religious issues
  • knowledge of foreign languages at B2+ level
  • knowledge of specialist theological language and texts (realised through courses in foreign language for Theologians and a course in Latin which covers ecclesial vocabulary. Students also learn elements of Greek and Hebrew which concentrate on Biblical vocabulary)

  • knowledge of the basics of economics and entrepreneurship
  • skills for practical application of the hard and soft skills acquired

  • ICT skills in evangelisation
  • skills for researching, analysing and processing information from multiple sources
  • skills for defining and solving problems

  • skills for defining problems, selecting sources, evaluating, analysing and synthesising information related to theology; especially skills for theological evaluation of contemporary social phenomena or ethical problems
  • skills for individual scientific work in the field of theological sciences (preparation of a lecture or scientific text, participation in a scientific discussion).

 

Education requirements


  • Polish ‘New Matura’ Certificate

The result is expressed in percentage scale.

Competition on the basis of secondary school certificate – the result of the written test is scored on the two of following subjects: Polish language, mathematics, foreign language, history, biology, chemistry, physics, informatics,  civic education, geography, Latin and ancient culture, history of art, history of music or philosophy. If an applicant passed more than two of the above subjects, the best result is taken into consideration.

An applicant is also required to submit one of the certificates confirming English proficiency at level B2:

  • Matura examination in English at the advanced level in the written part only with the result 60% or higher,

  • Foreign Secondary School Certificate

Competition on the basis of secondary school certificate – the result on the two of the following subjects is scored: Polish language, mathematics, foreign language, history, biology, chemistry, physics, informatics,  civic education, geography, Latin and ancient culture, history of art, history of music or philosophy. If an applicant passed more than two of the above subjects, the best result is taken into consideration.

Admissions Office KUL will convert your results into Polish grading system according to score convertion rules.

An applicant is also required to submit one of the certificates confirming English language proficiency at level B2


  • International Baccalaureate Diploma /European Baccalaureate Diploma

Competition on the basis of secondary school certificate – the result on the two of the following subjects is scored: Polish language, mathematics, foreign language, history, biology, chemistry, physics, informatics,  civic education, geography, Latin and ancient culture, history of art, history of music or philosophy. If an applicant passed more than two of the above subjects, the best result is taken into consideration.

The result is expressed in 1-6 or 2-5 scale, you can choose whichever scale!
